In this piece, I explore the concept of identity in the context of the physical form of the brain and naturally-occuring algorithms.

I built an algorithmic model to resemble a network of neurons using Grasshopper.

I then segmented slices of the three-dimensional model in Rhino by projecting the neural pathways onto planes.

After laser cutting 20 squares of transparent acrylic, I engraved each.

Lastly, I modeled and laser cut a structure to support the slides.

This project was part of 'Unravel the Code' - an interdisciplinary course at Maryland Institute College of Art bridging Digital Fabrication and Textiles. Each project in this course draws upon traditional craft to explore emerging technologies of making. The piece was on exhibition at Baltimore's Open Works from December 2016 to January 2017.
